STE and LES Meeting with Dean Altiero on November 18, 2014

STE and the New Orleans Chapter of the Louisiana Engineering Society (LES) met this past Tuesday (11/18/14) with Dean Nicholas Altiero of the Tulane School of Science and Engineering (SSE) to discuss the return of EE, ME and CE at the SSE. He indicated he is in favor of growing these programs back, but will need more support from industry and business to do so. He also indicated that the more logical programs to return first are EE and ME. Tulane has already returned Computer Science (CS) and wants to expand in the areas of AI and robotics. The meeting was productive with the promise to continue the discussion. Also on a relate note the reconstituted STE is gaining acceptance by the Dean and the Tulane Alumni Association after years of separation.

Mission Statement

The Society of Tulane Engineers (STE), Inc. is a non-profit independent alumni association made up primarily of graduates and anyone who attended any former or present engineering program at Tulane University, including faculty. It is the mission of STE, Inc. to support the restoration of diverse and multi-disciplined engineering educational programs within the new School of Science and Engineering at Tulane University. We support development of new and innovative engineering fields of study and the restoration of established, high demand degree programs to meet the growing need for engineers globally, nationally and locally as New Orleans and the Gulf Coast rebuild from the destructive aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and the nation develops more renewable energy technologies. We encourage courses of engineering study that strategically position Tulane as a provider of engineering professionals to industry and government while maintaining a leadership position in research and development.
